JAN VISSER

DR. JAN VISSER earned his Ph.D. in psychology in 1998. He worked as an assistant professor and currently combines teaching with a career as a fiction author. Jan has published twelve academic texts and two fiction novels. His scholarly writing is clear, concise, and to the point, while his creative writing can be described as passionate and engaging. Jan teaches Scholarly Writing and Research Design for Walden University, and he has extensive experience guiding students through the process of writing their thesis or dissertation. He consistently receives excellent evaluations from his students, who praise his commitment and the quality of his feedback.
Jan will help you design your research and write your thesis or dissertation. He can also give general advice on the use of statistics. His strengths include:
1. A thorough knowledge of research design and statistics, including t-tests, ANOVA, MANOVA, regression analysis, factor analysis, and cluster analysis—he can help you determine what type of analysis you should use for your particular research question.
2. A talent for spotting weaknesses in the design of a study—if you’re still in the early stages of your research, he can help you improve your design and put you on the right track.
3. A knack for presenting complex material in easily accessible prose—he will not write your thesis or dissertation for you, but he will assist you in creating a well-written, comprehensible text.
4. Attention to detail—although Jan does not do copy-editing, he will point out errors in spelling and grammar, as part of his writing assistance.
5. A quick turnaround time—you’ll have your stuff back before you can say floccinaucinihilipilification (this is a word, believe it or not).

Student Feedback--Course Evaluations

Dr. Visser was the most challenging professor I have had to this point in my Walden experience, but the wealth of information gained has been invaluable. While challenging, he is fair. I was amazed with the depth of his knowledge as well as his ability to convey to students where we needed to improve. He found ways to be positive in his comments, providing encouragement, and his criticisms were always constructive. I cannot say enough good things about him. He is an asset to Walden and should be rewarded for his efforts. I suggest you pay him what he is worth - and whatever you are paying him is not enough :)

The instructor was responsive and specific about his grading. I felt better prepared for my thesis though the statistical areas are a great weakness for me. I appreciated the time he took to make corrections while still being uplifting with what aspects were good and effective. Dr Jan Visser was definitely one of the best instructors I have had at Walden.

Dr. Jan was absolutely great. He graded materials on time and gave really meaningful and constructive feedback. He asked questions to promote further thinking and was incredibly prompt in getting back to me when I had questions. His grading policies were tough, but consistent and fair. I really enjoyed this course and his mentoring.

Dr. Visser was prompt in responding, interactive with students, understanding, considered the needs of the class and modified when necessary, and promoted a positive learning environment!

The instructor is very knowledgable, and while standards are high, he is good at encouraging students and helping to shape work until it meets standards.

Dr. Visser did an outstanding job! I welcome the opportunity to take courses from him in the future.

Dr. Visser was top notch! I really respected his policies and constructive criticism. I liked the fact that he provided timely feedback with thorough information. He demonstrated his knowledge in the course, which helped me to enhance skills in areas that I have struggled with in the past. Because of this course, I feel my writing skills have improved over the past 12 weeks. I also appreciate his bluntess :) He states what he wants, and provides consequences for mistakes that are continuously made--that's my kind of teaching!
