NOTE: This is NOT a paper mill. Advisors assist students using the same ethical guidelines as faculty advisors. You may not do the student's work (e.g., data collection, ghostwriting).
Consultants in high-volume categories (e.g., psychology, education) must be full-time freelancers (i.e., retired from full-time teaching / no "day job"). We want our students to have your full attention. Priority given to candidates who intend to commit long-term.
IF:
- you have chaired/served on thesis and/or dissertation committees and advised masters and/or doctoral students during the writing process ...
- you are retired or teaching no more than 1 class per semester (this pertains to high-volume categories such as psychology, education, nursing and statistics)
- English is your first language
- you have exceptional (English) writing/editing proficiency
- you are able to use Microsoft Word's tracking and comment features
- you are consistently available
- you are U.S.-based
- you can check e-mail regularly throughout the day (M-F), including once per day on weekends
- you have at least 20 hours per week to spare (if you're in a high-volume category)

Applicants must pass our scholarly writing/English fluency tests (less than 1 hour of time investment) and agree to our policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines. If you pass the tests, you may e-mail or speak to advisors currently in the network before deciding to join.
You are not eligible to join this network if you perform "ghostwriting" for students, either through another site or freelance.

Academic Editors
Applicants must be able to perform the following services:
- developmental editing
- copyediting / line editing
- APA, Turabian, Chicago, Harvard, CBE, and/or AAA formatting
- proofreading
- fact checking
Qualified applicants will be sent several short editing and formatting tests. Academic editing applicants must pass copyediting AND academic format tests. A score of 100% is required on both tests to join the copyediting network. There are no retests. Failed tests are not marked and returned.
Editors work directly with clients and remain freelance (independent contractors). Editors are not employees of any business entity or business owner.

- Basic requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher
- Full-time freelance (no "day job")
- 5+ years of academic editing experience (including work with non-native English speakers / ESL students)
- Ability to use Microsoft Word's tracking and comment features
- Ability to send and receive file attachments
- Reliable Internet access plus a primary and secondary e-mail address
- Ability to follow a university's guidelines (i.e., style manual, handbook)
- Extreme attention to detail
- Ability to check e-mail several times each day (including once per day on weekends) and respond **quickly**
- Consistent availability (not to fill in gaps for other sources of regular income/work)
- USA-based
- English must be first language
- Dependability (meet all deadlines)
- Willing to commit long-term to a high-volume editing network
Ethical policies include:
- Editors must use a a written contract/agreement that specifies the scope of the project, the cost per word/per page/per hour, and payment methods
- You may not subcontract projects to other editors/individuals/businesses
- You may not perform a student's research or write a student's thesis or dissertation
